Speaker: Interviewer: Todd Burns
There’s a reason James Murphy is known as the genial frontman of electronica. Since his youthful days in Manhattan, Murphy has championed the mixing-up of indie and dance genres with powerful bass and beat-heavy disco, and is best known as one of the founders of LCD Soundsystem and DFA Records.
As lead vocalist and songwriter in LCD Soundsystem, he was nominated for two Grammys for their second album The Sound Of Silver. After three albums and a string of cult hits, the band came to an end in 2010, and since then Murphy has established himself as a well known producer, film maker and DJ. 2013 was a hectic year for the 43 year old: he finished making his short film “Little Duck”, and among other things acted as co-producer of Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Mosquito” and Arcade Fire’s “Reflektor”.
