Due to unfashionably harsh and unforgiving family values, Swedish cousins Johan Fredrik Jonason and Axel Aron Boman kept their music project Man Tear a secret during most of their youth. Raised with chamber music the boys felt awkward fumbling for a different musical identity. Puberty was spent hiding, bonding, escaping grand parents’ unrealistic expectations, and other even greater burdens. A boys’ choir dropout, Jonason’s tool of expression was his voice. Boman’s emerging fascination for electronics made him experiment with computers and the sounds they could produce. Basement sessions would most often result in tears and angst-ridden chorus shouting.
Fifteen years later, the forgotten project was rediscovered in a chest of drawers. Now mature artists, Jonason and Boman were caught off guard. The beauty and grave sincerity of their early works stabbed like knife in heart. Man Tear was immediately reactivated.
Boman’s friend Petter Nordkvist was approached and asked to structure the emotional turmoil. A cottage in the wild was hired, in which synthesizers were installed. Tears once again poured down rose male cheeks.
