Thibo Girardon – Panda da Panda – has attracted attention for everything from bear-painted-nude-dancers in the video of ’Titta när han dansar’ – to his dramatic stage performances. Last year on tour, he shocked his audiences when he stabbed one three centimeter deep hole in the side of his chest, with a machete. As part of the performance, the idea was to swing the wood-weapon between body and arm, but a miss in full force was close to puncturing one lung.
Why a electronic act as Panda DA Panda is accompanied by toy weapons, plants and various Native American attributes is explained creativity. Apart stage damages, the result is that he’s tattooing himself, making paintings, is a self-taught acrobat and make his own videos. And musically, he hard to pass for anything but an instrumental rainman.
- ”We have always had instruments at hand at home. Piano, drums, accordions and all kinds of wind instruments. Father played congas and music has always been close to our family. I’ve been practicing all my life and inherited my knowledge to draw from my father, but that’s because I sat and drew. The only way to learn is to try.”
- ”I create most of my music at home in my house in Svarte, my home village. I often sit and make hoards of music, sometimes five songs in a day. If I don’t capture the right emotion in the song – to hell with it. But then there will be another single from nowhere. I’ll write the text and the whole thing right away, and then it’s ready and recorded after a few hours.
The approach is similar to a jamming, and culminates into the playful electronic tones that streches between house, techno and dubstep. What really captivates the listener, is however the story of the song.
”You may fill in with other people’s emotions and their impression because it is difficult for anyone else to be like me. Then you’ll have to find more ways so everyone can grasp the meaning of the song. Dancing, laughing or crying to – as long as it provides feelings to the listener.
Those who are not convinced with your headphones, do it by watching his energetic and rich stage personality. And the attention surrounding Panda Da Panda’s live shows do not teach not decrease in the future. More props. More choreography.
