Hiding behind the name Torkelsen is a Fredrikstad based producer by the name of Kristian Torkelsen. He was previously one half of the electro-duo Munn til Munn Metoden and synth band Kenneth Ishak & The Freedom Machines.
Torkelsen has been busy since he played his debut solo show in August 2011. He has played all over Norway, as well as shows in Stockholm and London, where he’s shared the stage with names like Onra, Com Truise, Offshore, Teen Daze and Brothertiger. Back in the studio he’s done remixes for Parenthetical Girls (CA), Simian Ghost (SE), Teen Daze (CA), Snasen, Maribel and Casiokids, to name but a few.
In between all of this he has found the time to release “Torsnes Beats vol. 1” in 2011 and a second in the series a year later. He made a split 7" with American band Hard Mix in 2011 and an eponymous debut proper in 2012. The record fared him well and earned him comparisons to such luminaries as Gold Panda, Four Tet, Amon Tobin, Teams and Boards of Canada, as well as an invitation to appear at Roskilde. And from this slew of releases he’s also had some pretty decent coverage from XLR8R, The Fader, No Fear of Pop, The 405, Impose Magazine amongst other.
2014 will mean more shows and not the least a new record. The basis for the record has as usual been recorded in his basement studio in Torsnes, just outside Fredrikstad, but this time, for the finishing touches, he’ll take it to Kenneth Ishak (Heyerdahl, Beezewax) in Oslo who will join him on mixing and production duties. The result is a truly widescreen sound, overflowing with details, melodies and intensity without even the merest hint of compromise.
